Organic Hummus: Choosing Health and Flavor with Hope

We’ve examined why it’s essential to choose organic chickpeas and organic olive oil (TLDR – it’s better for your health and flavor!) but we’ve never looked at organic hummus as a whole. There are so many different terms in the health food industry. It’s impossible to keep up.

Here at Hope Foods, we're dedicated to creative food that nourishes your body and is bursting with flavor.

In this post, we’ll look at what the “organic” label in organic hummus means, and why it’s important for your health!

What Does “Organic” Even Mean?

USDA Organic Seal

There are so many terms in the health food industry. “Natural,” “artisanal,” “superfood,” and more. It’s confusing, to say the least. Thankfully, when it comes to foods labeled with the USDA-certified organic label, you can rest easy and make an informed decision when you purchase your food. The word “organic” refers to the term “found on products that have been produced using cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that support the cycling of on-farm resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity.”

That’s a bit of a confusing definition, so we’ll break it down: Basically, the products must be grown with a specific soil quality, animal raising practices, pest, and weed control. No sewage sludge, irradiation, genetic engineering, or synthetic fertilizers may be used.

This means you can be confident that you aren’t ingesting harmful chemicals (like glyphosate) when you eat your food. That’s a win!

Is Organic Hummus Good for You?

Simply put, yes. A 2014 study found that organic crops have higher concentrations of antioxidants than non-organic counterparts. It also found evidence that organic produce has lower degrees of pesticide residues and toxic metals.  Additionally, organic foods do not contain synthetic pesticides, which are harmful to your health. Another study, completed in 2014, researched the impact of pesticides on pregnant women. They found the rates of autism or other developmental disorders were higher in women exposed to synthetic pesticides. Additionally, a scientific review done in 2017 found evidence that organic food may reduce the risk of allergic diseases and obesity.

That’s something we can get behind!

Organic Hummus Ingredients: Quality Matters

Hope Hummus: Sea Salt & Olive Oil Hummus

We believe life is a gift. Protecting our bodies and our planet from damaging chemicals improve our well-being and the overall health of our environment. Our hummus is USDA-certified organic. We have a strict process we follow and we have an annual audit to ensure we follow the guidelines.

To have the USDA organic certification and seal, a product must be made with 100% organic ingredients - which we do!

You may have noticed that sea salt isn’t labeled organic in our ingredients list. Fun fact: It’s never organic because it’s a mineral and not an agricultural product!

Organic Hummus Brands: Flavor Matters

There are many organic hummus brands on the market. How can you choose the right one? At Hope, we care equally about flavor as we do about health. What’s the point of eating healthy food if you don’t want to eat it because it tastes like cardboard? Bleck. We’ve always been a pioneer in creating unique hummus flavors that are exciting – flavors that make you want to come back for more. And, while there are other organic hummus brands – well, we’ll let you decide if their flavors stack up to ours. From Thai Coconut Curry to Black Garlic, each and every one of our organic hummus ingredients is thoroughly vetted to ensure it exceeds flavor expectations, making it your favorite of the organic hummus brands.
