Make a Labor Day Resolution for Health, Sustainability, and Deliciousness

Labor Day isn’t typically the time of year to make resolutions, but why wait until the New Year?  – no matter the time of year.

Making changes to be healthier and make more sustainable choices is always a good idea

The last year has been full of many ups and downs, but if there’s a couple of things we can all agree on, it is that getting healthy and investing in our planet are good choices. Labor Day seems like a great time to make some resolutions: Everyone is back-to-school and getting into a normal schedule after a summer of fun. Here at Hope, healthy and sustainable food is what we do: It’s a huge part of why and how we make our food (another huge part of it is mixing unique and powerful flavors, of course).

We’re Dedicated to Making Healthy Food

Choosing food that’s actually good for you is tough. It feels like the advice for healthy living is always changing: “Eat fat – don’t eat fat! Carbs are great – carbs are terrible!” It’s exhausting, we know. One thing is for certain: Eating whole, organic foods that aren’t highly processed is a good way to go. Labels full of ingredients you can’t pronounce? Not so good.

Our nut dips and hummus are made using whole, sustainably sourced ingredients. And our ingredient labels? A kindergartner could read them. Here’s what’s in our cashew and almond dips and hummus that makes them a healthy choice:

Chocolate Cashew Almond Dip Lid

To highlight just how simple and healthy our ingredients are, we chose the dip most likely to be unhealthy: Our delectable, chocolatey, delicious chocolate dip. How could something so delectable be made with healthy ingredients? Here you go – you ready?

Water, Cashew Butter, Almonds, Cane Sugar, Sunflower Oil, Dutched Cocoa Powder, Agave Nectar, Contains less than 2% of Natural Vanilla Flavor, Sea Salt, Citric Acid, Xanthan Gum.

You see? Every ingredient is easy to pronounce. Every ingredient was hand-picked for its nutrients and flavor. Let’s go through them:

Sunflower Oil

This oil is high in vitamin E - which is important for immune function. Additionally, it’s a powerful oxidant. In just one tablespoon of sunflower oil, you get 37% of your recommended daily vitamin E intake.

Cashew Butter

Cashews have an abundance of nutrients, including healthy fats, carbs, protein, vitamin E, selenium, and manganese.

Almonds

Almonds are a known superfood - they’re packed with magnesium, riboflavin, fiber, phosphorus, vitamin E, unsaturated fats, and are low in sodium.

Dutched Cocoa Powder

It’s pretty wonderful that chocolate has health benefits. Dutch cocoa powder is rich in polyphenols (naturally occurring antioxidants), and may have cancer-fighting properties!

Agave Nectar

Agave nectar, found in the agave cactus, has vitamin B6 (which helps your body break down food and protects from heart disease), and vitamin K (which can help lower depression risk).

Vanilla Flavor

It may seem like vanilla is just there for the flavor, but it has health benefits as well, including reducing cholesterol, boosting antioxidants, helping with anxiety, and more.

Sea Salt

Sea salt adds flavor, and is also a real nutrient powerhouse. It is anti-inflammatory, helps keep bacterial and viral infections at bay, is a great source of potassium and sodium, relieves stress, and much, much more.

Citric Acid and Xanthan Gum

These two ingredients are more for a good eating experience. Citric acid is a naturally occurring substance that helps keep food fresh, and xanthan gum improves texture, consistency, and shelf life (and may have some health benefits, too!).

Hummus is our first love: The product that launched Hope Foods. We love creating new flavors, and we’re proud to be certified organic and non-GMO. Here’s a breakdown of the ingredients in our latest release:

Garbanzo Beans, Water, Avocado Puree (Hass Avocado, Lime Juice Concentrate), Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Tahini (Sesame Seeds), Sea Salt, No Heat Green Jalapenos, Cilantro, Cane Sugar, Lime Juice Concentrate, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Cumin, Citric Acid.

Garbanzo Beans

Also known as chickpeas, this little bean packs a powerful nutritional punch. They’re a great source of plant-based protein, are a healthy carbohydrate, and have a good amount of fiber, as well as a variety of minerals and vitamins.

Avocado

We don’t have to spend much time on this one, as avocado is a famously healthy food. Rich in healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals, it’s a creamy and healthy fruit we all love.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

This healthy source of fat is anti-inflammatory, rich in vitamin E, contains vitamin K, helps reduce blood pressure, reduces cholesterol, and more. Oh, and did we mention it’s rich and yummy?

Tahini

Tahini is a paste made from sesame seeds, and it’s shockingly nutritious. It is packed with vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats. It contains manganese and phosphorus, which are important for bone health, while thiamine (a serving is 13% of your daily value!) and vitamin B6 are important for energy production.

Jalapenos

You’d think the jalapenos are just for flavor (and they are flavorful), but they are also rich in minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber. Who would have thought?

Cilantro

Studies have shown that cilantro may help those with Alzheimer’s or Parkinsons’, may reduce anxiety, and more. We’re 100% sure it’s one of the best flavors in the entire world (unless you’re part of the population for whom it tastes like soap - and we feel sad for you).

Flavors

The rest of the ingredients are for flavor. We chose cane sugar (a less processed sugar), and a bunch of wonderful spices, to create a flavor you’ll want to put on everything (well, maybe not dessert - don’t get too crazy).

All our hummus is certified organic, and both our hummus and cashew and almond dips are made with non-GMO ingredients. This is a difference you will taste. The partners who grow our ingredients are committed to their communities and to producing sustainable products. Making a choice to use Hope Products means you are investing in our planet’s future!
