According to the National Institutes of Health, “Omega-3s are important components of the membranes that surround each cell in your body…Omega-3s also provide calories to give your body energy and have many functions in your heart, blood vessels, lungs, immune system, and endocrine system.”

Simply put, Omega-3s may have benefits for your heart health, immune system, blood vessels, heart, and endocrine system. And that’s not all. According to one study, “ingestion of omega-3 fatty acids increases learning, memory, cognitive well-being, and blood flow in the brain.” They also have “anti-inflammatory actions that may help relieve depression” (source).

How Can I Get Omega-3 Daily?
The dosage for omega-3 fatty acids depends on your age, gender, and the current levels in your body. For adults, it is recommended that your daily intake is 1.6 g for males, and 1.1 g for females. So, you might be asking: How can I get omega-3 daily? The best way to get it in your diet is through food. Try incorporating some of the above foods into your diet on a regular basis. It can be tough to think about adding additional foods into your diet, however. This is especially true if you are vegetarian or vegan, as the highest concentration of omega-3’s is in fish and seafood. That’s why we started adding flaxseed oil to our hummus. Hummus is already a healthy snack, and the addition of flaxseed oil gives you some of the omega-3s your body and mind need to be healthy. It’s a win-win.
